RTÉRSA Update – July 2024

Greetings All – We’d like to give you an update on what’s been happening regarding our
pension increase for 2024.

Pension increase request

The RTÉSA Scheme Trustees have recommended a 4% pension increase, backdated to January
2024.
Given this, RTÉRSA wrote to the Chair of the RTÉ board on June 25th requesting that there is
no undue delay in RTÉ communicating its support to government for the 4% increase in
pensions proposed by the Trustees. See letter here.

Mr Terence O’Rourke replied on July 10th, confirming that the RTÉ board has fully and
formally supported the proposed increases and that this has been communicated to the
Scheme’s Trustees and the relevant government departments. Please see letter here.

We are now sending a letter to Minister Catherine Martin requesting that this request for an
RTÉSA pension increase proposed by the Scheme Trustees (with the approval of the Scheme
Actuary) be approved as quickly as possible and sent to the Department of Public Expenditure
and Reform (DPER) for final approval.

As you are aware, these requests for increases have to date taken a long time to be approved.
For instance, the submission for a 2.5% increase, effective January 1st, 2022, was made to
government in April 2022. DPER’s consent to this increase was finally given on 23rd November 2023

It was only reflected in our pensions in early 2024.

These unnecessary delays in approving pension increases have a major detrimental financial
impact on our members.

We will keep you updated on any progress on this.
